The Nagpada police, investigating Saturday’s robbery at a jewellery shop, have prepared ‘tentative sketches’ of the accused and have asked jewellery shops in the area to be alert while dealing in the mortgage or sale of gold.
Four armed men robbed Ramdev Jewellers of 3.5 kg of gold estimated to be worth Rs 47 lakh. Since they used handkerchiefs to mask their faces, the police have prepared sketches highlighting only a few features of the accused.
“We alerted the control within 10 minutes. The accused sped on two motorcycles and split after going out of the shop’s lane. One went towards DB Nagar and the other towards Nagpada junction,” said a police officer.
“We have got the sketches but they are not clear and the only identifier is a mark near the eyes of one of the accused,” added the official.
The police are showing the photos to the witnesses. They will try and retrace the route through which the accused fled.
“The four had done a recce of the shop as they knew the shop didn’t have a CCTV or a security guard. They took advantage of the situation,” said Sanjay Kadam, senior police inspector.
