The Juhu police claimed to have recovered five more love letters written by actor Jiah Khan to Sooraj Pancholi, in which she has purportedly alleged Sooraj physically abused her and cheated on her, the prosecution told the Andheri magistrate court on Tuesday while seeking his police custody.
The Juhu police had arrested Sooraj, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, on Monday evening for abetting Jiah’s suicide.
The prosecution said his interrogation was necessary following allegations of threat, assault and rape made against him by Jiah in the note recovered by police, in which she also alleges she had aborted their child. Public prosecutor AK Pacharane said the charge on which Sooraj is booked is serious and the offence is not bailable.
Sooraj’s advocate Zaheer Khan objected to the remand pleading the letters should first be verified. “The six-page letter which the prosecution has made the basis for booking Sooraj does not mention his name, nor does it have her signature,” Khan argued.
"Jiah was obsessive and possessive. She was disturbed for several reasons, including disturbed family relations and rejections in her career.
The doctors have also given a detailed report stating Sooraj cannot be blamed for her suicide. However, police ignored these aspects,” he said.
The court, however, discarded his argument and remanded Sooraj in police custody.
