The police have formed a four-member team with knowledge of the drug trade in the city to trace the peddlers who provided the drugs for the sundown party.
“We are not going to go ahead with the investigation on basis of who invited whom and why someone was at the party, we are going to rely solely on medical evidence,” said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police (west region).
The police said that when they raided the place at 8pm on Sunday night, they saw the two IPL players, Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell from the Pune Warriors team sitting in a corner, away from the other attendees.
When the police questioned the staff about them, they were told that the players were were VIP guests.
“There is a possibility that middlemen facilitated the visit of IPL players at the venue,” added Nangre-Patil.
The police added that they have been able to obtain the CCTV footage of the venue and are sure that no one who was present at the party will go unquestioned.
Nangre-Patil further stated that people from Designer Hippies, the event management company that organised the party and their DJs who were playing at the venue will also be brought in for questioning.
