The staff at D N Nagar police station were in for a surprise on Tuesday morning when a police inspector came to the station and fell with blood spurting from his wrist.
The inspector wanted to lodge a criminal complaint against his wife, Kamal, for assaulting him.
However, the witnesses said Shinde had himself cut his wrist with a glass bottle, during a quarrel with Kamal.
“The blood was flowing like a fountain and spread all over the station room. It took more then two hours to get rid of the foul smell emanating out of it,” said a police source who witnessed the entire episode.
He was rushed to Cooper Hospital, Juhu.
Officials at DN Nagar police station identified the inspector as Sarjerao Shinde, working with the Local-Arm Division, Marol.
Around 9.30 am, Shinde reportedly went to Kamal’s shop and they got into a quarrel. He then reached the police station and alleged that his wife had assaulted him. Kamal who was brought to the police station also showed some injury marks. “A cross complaint has been taken against the duo,” said senior police inspector M. Avhad.
The police sources said Shinde has been having a martial tiff with Kamal, who runs a small shop near Versova police station. They have been living separately, since more than two years. The reason for their tiff allegedly was that Shinde suspected his wife of having an extra-martial affair.
Bindu Bhosle, of Mahanshakti Trust that is helping Kamal fight her case, said Shinde has been abusing his wife and had once thrown her out of their house. She then approached the Trust, who provided her with an accommodation.
Shinde could not be contacted for comment.
