From constables to officers up to the rank of additional commissioner of police, 200 Mumbai policemen not only took part in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon-2012 but also bagged positions among the top 35.
"This year, we had 200 policemen participating in the marathon, of which, 45 ran the full marathon while 155 personnel ran the 21-km long half marathon," said inspector Jagadish Sail, police sports coordinator for the event.
Constable Amit Kuchekar covered the 42-km stretch in three hours and acquired the first place amongst policemen and the 21st place overall. Constable Tanaji Sutar completed the run in three hours and 15 minutes and acquired the second police amongst policemen and the 35th position overall.
Constable Kondiba Madane covered the 21-km long marathon in 1 hour and 18 minutes and reached the finish-line first amongst policemen and acquired the 15th position overall. Qaisar Khalid, additional commissioner of police, central region, came third amongst policemen along with constables Pratik Gaikwad, Amit Chavan and Ranjit Kadam, having covered the distance in 1 hour 55 minutes. "It is good to challenge and set new boundaries for yourself," Khalid said.
Surendra Jaiswal, assistant commissioner of police, who completed the 21-km run in 2 hours and 30 minutes, said he ran to dispel the belief that policemen were unfit.
