Police have arrested a contract killer who was allegedly hired by a Mira Road-based politician to kill his brother’s murderers.

Firoz Khan, an aide of gangster Vickey Malhotra, reportedly confessed that a politician — his name has not been revealed — had hired him. “We are verifying the claims made by Khan,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police J. Hargude. Khan was arrested last week.

The politician’s brother was killed in 2008 reportedly because of a cable business rivalry. Though police sources did not reveal the exact amount for which Khan was hired, the politician had reportedly paid him Rs 70,000 in instalments.

He also allegedly gave Khan two pistols and 10 bullets, sources said. The police are questioning the politician too.

Khan was arrested after the police intercepted a call, in which he was talking about the contract killing.

The police are investigating Khan’s call records and well as those of the politician, who also has a criminal background. Khan, who was released on bail last year, has several cases registered against him.
