Posing as passengers, two unidentified men allegedly assaulted an autorickshaw driver and fled with his vehicle.

The incident took place on Monday around 2.15am. The two unidentified men — who according to Ramjanam Yadav, 25, appeared to be in their late 20s — hailed the auto from Sakinaka. Unsuspecting Yadav, a resident of Damu Nagar in Kandivli (east), took the two on board.

As they neared Vinka Road in Sakinaka, the duo asked Yadav to halt the vehicle. As the vehicle stopped, they allegedly dragged Yadav out of the vehicle and assaulted him. They took Rs500 from his wallet and the vehicle documents that were with him. They, then, pushed Yadav and drove away in his vehicle.

“On the basis of the description provided by Yadav, we will be conducting inquiries. We have registered a case of robbery against the duo. They made away with cash, documents and the vehicle collectively worth over Rs 1 lakh.

Yadav has sustained minor injuries,” S Dhanedhar, senior police inspector of Sakinaka police station, said.
