Dismissed encounter specialist, Pradeep Sharma, arrested for allegedly killing suspected Chhota Rajan aide, Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakkhan Bhhaiya, has applied for bail in the sessions court for the second time.
The application is likely to be heard on Friday. The Special Investigating Team (SIT) had arrested Sharma on January 8.
Gupta was killed, allegedly in a fake encounter, in November 2006 at Versova. His brother, Ram Prasad, moved the Bombay High Court alleging that the police had killed his brother.
The court ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case in February 2008. The inquiry report said Gupta was murdered and the court formed the SIT to probe the case.
According to Sharma’s bail application, his name first figured in the SIT’s first information report after Ram Prasad’s complaint. “…The complainant, to falsely implicate Sharma, despite claming to have knowledge from January 2007, at no point of time made any reference or attributed any act (to Sharma),” the application said.
The application also said Sharma’s cellphone records show that at the time of encounter he was at D N Nagar police station.
Sharma said he had complained to the director general of police, on April 2008 that some officers were attempting to implicate him.
The court directed the SIT to register the complaint on August 13, 2009, but the SIT registered the case seven days later, Sharma’s application said. “During this period they concocted, fabricated, and plotted the facts and circumstances in order to implicate (Sharma),” said the application.
