Nobody from Pramod Mahajan or Gopinath Munde’s families attended the funeral of Mahajan’s brother, Pravin, on Thursday.
Pravin (50), convicted for killing Mahajan in 2006, died on Wednesday evening, after spending 82 days in coma in a private hospital.
His body was taken to JJ Hospital for post-mortem on Wednesday night. It was taken to the crematorium at 11 am on Thursday morning.
He was cremated at the Jawhar Baug crematorium in Thane (West) in the presence of his older brother, Prakash and a few friends.
No political leaders, except Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader, Ram Kadam, attended the funeral.
“I had informed them [Mahajan’s and Munde’s families] that Pravin is no more. I did my duty. You should ask them why they didn’t come,” said Prakash. “My mother didn’t come because she might not have been able to bear the trauma.”
Prasad and Shailendra Pulliwar, brothers of Pravin’s wife, Sarangi, stood by Pravin’s 20-year-old son, Kapil, as he performed the last rites.
Sarangi, her mother and daughter Vrushali (20) stayed home.
“Both my brothers are no more. I am alone now,” Prakash, a member of the Shiv Sena, said. “I had carried Pravin in my arms as a child, and today I’m carrying his body…”
Prakash said supporting Pravin’s wife and twin was his priority.
Prakash also refused to comment on nephew, Rahul Mahajan’s wedding scheduled for the weekend.
Rahul will choose his bride in the finale of a reality television show. “Rahul can take his own decisions,” Prakash said.
“I got to know of the wedding through the media. So you
know what my position in the family is.”
