On the tenth day of Muharram on Friday, more than a lakh Shia Muslims dressed in black will walk barefoot in a procession from Mughal mosque in Dongri to Rehmatabad graveyard in Mazgaon.
Before the procession, Maulana Mirza Athar, who has delivered Muharram, lectures in the city for the last 53 years, will address the crowd and convey a message of peace.
On Thursday, more than two lakh people attended the mourning ceremony in Saifee mosque in Bohra Mohalla.
Andheri resident Amir Rizvi, 40, a communication designer, will spend the day mourning in the Mughal mosque. "I will pray and participate in Azadari, a kind of mourning which includes classical singing of the tragedy and story telling dedicated to Imam Hussain," said Rizvi.
On Friday, those participating in the procession will not eat till the procession begins. There will be free food and sharbats served by various organizations from different religions and castes. "Every year, people from different sects and castes of the society come on the street and starts serving water and sharbat. You will find many non-Muslims also coming and serving food and water," said Rizvi.
