Preschools in the suburbs have ranked higher than south Mumbai institutions in a 10 city survey this year.
The survey, conducted by C-fore for Education World magazine, asked 6,823 people including parents, teachers and experts, to rate the preschools in their cities based on 10 parameters, such as teacher competence, teacher welfare and development, safety and hygiene, leadership, innovative teaching, value for money, parental involvement, individual attention to students, special needs education and infrastructure.
For the first time this year, schools were segregated into three categories based on their ownership-proprietary, franchised and pre-primaries (those attached to school or feeders to big schools.)
Besant Montessori School, Juhu, reached the first position in the proprietary category, after being ranked third in 2013, while several other suburban schools climbed the ranks. A lesser known preschool, Harmony Montessori, Santacruz jumped from number 12 last year to second position in this category. West Wind Gamdevi, came third. Kangaroo Kids, Bandra, ranked first in the franchised schools category, it had topped the survey last year too. Also for the second time in a row, Podar Jumbo Kids, Bandra ranked second. Among the pre-primaries, Dhirubhai Ambani International School came first, followed by Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane and The Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort.
