Income tax (I-T) authorities have found details of concealed income worth Rs 6 crore from actor Priyanka Chopra, Rs 1.5 crore from her father Dr Ashok Chopra and Rs 4 crore from photographer Atul Kasbekar after scrutinising their bank account details and financial records among other documents.
BP Gaur, director general (investigation), I-T, Mumbai, confirmed the development on Thursday.
The investigation wing of the I-T department had on Monday conducted raids on Priyanka, her father, her personal assistant Chand Mishra, and actor Katrina Kaif.
Raids were also conducted on Matrix, a celebrity management firm that handles Katrina's endorsements, and Kasbekar, who was a partner in Matrix and now runs Bling, another celebrity management firm.
A statement from Priyanka's spokesperson said: "We deny the… rumors being spread in the media on the basis of some unidentified sources. We are extending all cooperation to the income tax authorities…"
Dr Chopra could not be reached because his mobile phone was switched off. He also did not reply to text messages from the Hindustan Times.
Calling the I-T search routine, Kasbekar too denied reports that he has unaccounted assets worth Rs 4 crore. "Every rupee I make is by cheque. We never indulge in cash transaction. It will be sorted out soon."
Earlier the authorities had found that Priyanka owned nine flats in Mumbai - five are located in Raj Classic building at Andheri, where she lives.
Of these nine flats, Priyanka had shown two as gifts to her parents. “We also found some receipts of her father showing payments received for consulting patients in her flat,” the officer said, adding that details of these receipts were not found in Dr Chopra's account records.
The authorities have found that most part of the concealed income found with Priyanka was from brand endorsements, shows done abroad and private appearances.
Though the authorities have not yet found anything "substantial" at Katrina's flat, they are still investigating her account with Matrix. They have also found that one of Katrina's bank lockers had not been operated for around four years.
The I-T authorities are still probing to find out if Katrina has invested money in London where her family lives, and if the same has been declared.
A statement from Katrina's chartered accountant said she is "fully cooperating with the I-T department".
