The incident took place at the accused’s residence at Vardhaman Towers in Balkum, Thane (West). Sanjay, a professor at a Bhiwandi college, lived with his wife, Swati, 40, his daughter Atharva, 9, and his 15-year-old son, Rugved.
Swati and Sanjay reportedly had a troubled marriage and fought constantly. On Monday evening, Swati was going out with the children, when Sanjay stopped her said he needed to discuss something important.
The couple went to the bedroom to talk, but the decision turned into a heated argument, and Sanjay allegedly attacked Swati with a knife. Hearing the commotion, Atharva went to the bedroom and intervened, but Sanjay allegedly stabbed her as well, the police said. Rugved who followed, was pushed out of the bedroom and Sanjay locked the door.
Swati and Atharva died on the spot and Sanjay then allegedly tried to kill himself.
Sanjay has been admitted to Jupiter Hospital where his condition was serious at the time of going to press.
Rugved informed the police about the incident. The police registered a case of murder against Sanjay.
