When Farhan Chaudhary, 27, had proposed marriage to Amrita Mishra 15 months ago, he had set 12/12/12 as the wedding date in mind. On Wednesday, after a 2 hour wait, the couple officially wed.
The marriage registration office in Bandra saw a queue of excited young couples on Wednesday who wished to get together officially on the last date with repetitive numbers in this century. Marriage registrar Surekha Lohakare registered 23 marriages on Wednesday under the Special Marriage Act. "Such dates are popular among young couples. I had done about 20 registrations last year on 11/11/11," she said.
"This is a special day to get married on since everyone will remember it, and we had booked the slot three months ago," said Chaudhary, an Andheri resident, who will wed Mishra in Goa on Friday.
For the Sawants from Vile Parle, it was co-incidence, or as a relative put it, "a cosmic plan", when their registration took place at 12:12 pm. "As luck would have it, we went in a little after 12 pm and by the time we signed the forms, it was 12:12 pm," said said Nikhil Sawant, 29, a businessman from Vile Parle, who had a wedding reception in the evening.
Goregaon residents Nikhil Mohindra and Kayan Motashe, had waited for this day for a year and a half. "One of our friends had got married on 10/10/10 and we liked the idea," said Motashe, 25.
