The proposed research and development (R&D) hub in Raigad district, cleared by the state government on Wednesday, is expected to be ready in the next 10 years.
Officials with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is the nodal authority for the project, said once the hub is operational, it will create around one lakh scientific jobs and nearly eight lakh jobs for allied services.
The Rs 10,000-crore project, which will be developed by private promoters between Panvel and Roha, will not only bring all research and product development facilities under one roof, it will also facilitate interaction between scientists and businessmen, who can market the technologies and products being developed there.
The promoter will develop the infrastructure for the Innovation Park, as it is called, and then sell or lease the land to various companies that want to set up R&D units.
The 10 bidders who have responded to the state's move to develop the hub include Mahindra Life Spaces, Ackruti City Ltd., IndiaBulls Real Estate Ltd., DSK Developers Ltd., Lavasa-HCC, Rameshwar Vaibhav Hill Station, Arrow Engineering Pvt. Ltd., Pratibha Industries Ltd., Umang Housing Pvt. Ltd. and Alishan Estate Pvt. Ltd. and Dhanashree Infra Tech Pvt. Ltd.
Pune University's Science and Technology Park will assist the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, which is the nodal authority for the project, in the setting up of the hub.
The hub is expected to house around 2,000 centres.
