A retired IPS officer has lodged a first information report (FIR) against a serving Superintendent of Police and four others for embezzlement of funds belonging to the housing society they all reside in. The other accused are also retired policemen.

Sudhakar Suradkar, a 1966 batch Maharashtra Police Service Officer retired in 2002 as Inspector General, has lodged the FIR at Matunga police station alleging that R.D. Shinde, SP (Raigad) along with retired policemen Uttam Kale, P.A. Patil, T.R. Singh and Parab — all residents of Gazetted Police Officers Co-Operative Housing Society and holding positions in the society’s managing committee — misused society funds.

The CHS comprises members of Bullet building, located near Hindu Colony in Dadar.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Suradkar said the matter relates to unauthorised constructions by some society members. He said under the CHS rules, the five individuals should have dealt the matter individually and the society’s managing committee should not have intervened. “The managing committee has paid for the advocates fee from the society’s funds and this under CHS rules is a criminal offence,” Suradkar added.

Suradkar has charged the accused with embezzling Rs 25,000 from the society’s funds. “They threatened to throw me out of the society membership,” Suradkar said. He said he had tried to resolve the matter with the members, but failed. “They started slapping false cases against me so I had to file the FIR,” Suradkar said.

Shinde declined to comment saying was unaware about the FIR. “I do not attend the society’s meetings and I don’t know what are the contents of the FIR,” Shinde said. The chairman of the society Uttam Kale was unavailable for a comment.
