The Santacruz police are yet to arrest Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MLA Ram Kadam who was booked on Thursday on charges of abusing and obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty.
Explaining the delay, an officer from Santacruz police station said in order to arrest an MLA, the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha had to be informed first.
“We are in the process of recording statements of the policemen and others who were present at the police station on Thursday morning when Kadam misbehaved with the staff,” said Madhukar Chaudhari, senior inspector of Santacruz police station.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday when Kadam was attending a friend’s party in Santacruz (West). There was loud music playing till late in the night. A police patrolling van in the area heard this and went around 1am to ask them to stop the music.
The revellers were then brought to the Santacruz police station where Kadam allegedly got into a verbal duel with the police and also allegedly threatened them with dire consequences. The police registered a case against Kadam around 3 am on Thursday.
