A 15-year-old kidnap and rape victim ran from Mankhurd children’s home on Saturday. The girl, a Malwani resident, had been staying there since three days after the Malwani police rescued her and arrested her kidnapper Imran Khan (23), a zari worker.

The girl reportedly jumped off the wall of the children’s home before she was to be taken to JJ Hospital for routine tests. Sub Inspector Narayan Ugle, said on July 24 Khan, the girl’s neighbour, kidnapped her.

On July 29, the police rescued the girl from Gorai. “We sent the girl to Mankhurd children’s home for safe custody,” added Ugle.

The Trombay police, where the children’s home authorities have registered a missing complaint, said the girl had been depressed and was not eating.

“On Saturday the girl was to be taken to JJ Hospital for regular tests when she jumped off the wall and fled,” said an police officer.

The Children’s Welfare Committee members will decide where the girl will stay after she is traced.
