The 27-year-old Spanish woman who was raped and robbed at knifepoint in her Bandra flat on Monday has told the police that she wants to leave India before the end of the week and go back to her family in Germany. The police said they would expedite procedures so that the victim could leave soon.
The victim will have to remain in the city to formally identify the accused, Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, 30, who was arrested on Tuesday. The police showed her a photo of the accused, and she has identified him.
“We will produce him in Bandra court on Wednesday and seek his judicial custody. Once he is sent to judicial custody, an identification parade will be conducted, where the victim will identify him. She can then leave the city,” said a senior officer, requesting anonymity. “The police will then seek Ansari’s custody for interrogation.”
The victim is now said to have been put up at a safe home in Colaba. A Spanish national, she had come to Mumbai to learn music and is a musician by profession.
Residents of the Perry Cross Road building where the victim lived said she was polite and would always exchange pleasantries. “She did not mingle much, but she would always smile and exchange greetings,” said a neighbour, on condition of anonymity. “She always appeared frail. The attacker would have pinned her down easily as she is delicate.”
