Shirke, who has been a Sena corporator since 1992, owns Vakratund hotel, on RV Kadam Marg in Ghatkopar (West).

“The hotel is old and they extende it later, which is above the permissible height,” said an official from the Ghatkopar ward office, on condition of anonymity.

Locals had complained about the extension to the civic ward office.

Shirke has not yet replied to the notice. She told the Hindustan Times: “We have all the licences to run the hotel and there is nothing illegal.

The area has been declared as a slum area so, we have permission to build up to 14 ft high. The extended portion is just a feet or two.”

However, SA Bargir, assistant municipal commissioner, said: “They have agreed to remove the extended portion of the hotel in the next few days.”

The official from the ward office, however, said that they would not be able to take any action against the structure before December 31 because the police will be busy will security arrangements.
