The university had announced the re-exam last month, but several students and political organisations had protested against the decision to hold a re-exam. On Tuesday, a delegation from the Yuva Sena went to meet the university's vice chancellor Rajan Welukar, asking for a postponement of the exam following confusion among students about whether it would be held.

"The exam will be held at the scheduled time," confirmed Vilas Shinde, controller of exams.

Students are annoyed that they will have to appear for a re-exam for a fifth semester paper even after the sixth semester has already begun.

"The students are being punished by having to give a re-exam," said one student who did not wish to be named. "The culprits of the paper leak have not even been caught."

A petition put up on Facebook asking for the re-exam to be scrapped received more than 450 likes but was eventually not submitted to the university. Students had complained that they had other competitive exams to appear for as well as the sixth semester lessons to attend.
