As the deadline for recalibration of auto and taxi meters ends today, the regional transport officials plan to start a drive against non-recalibrated meters from Wednesday.
So far, 85% of the auto and taxi meters in the city have been recalibrated.
The Bombay high court had, on December 20, directed the authorities to recalibrate e-meters in the city by January 15.
Madhukar Jadhav, regional transport official, Tardeo RTO, said, “Most taxis in our jurisdiction have been recalibrated. But, we plan to initiate a campaign against those not complying with the order.”
Till Monday, 33,631 taxi and 84,121 auto meters in the city were recalibrated. Nearly 21,649 taxi meters in the island city and 51,121 in the western suburbs have been recalibrated. In the eastern suburbs, 33,000 auto meters have been recalibrated.
Good turnout was witnessed at the city RTOs on Monday. Nearly 390 taxi meters at the Tardeo RTO were recalibrated. The Wadala and Andheri RTOs recalibrated 636 and 908 autos respectively.
“Non-renewed permits is one of the reasons why some drivers haven’t approached us yet. We are expecting a huge rush on Tuesday,” said an official from Andheri RTO requesting anonymity.
