The skeletal remains of a three-year-old girl were found near an under-construction site in Borivli (East) on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was later identified as a resident of a nearby area who had been missing since over last 20 days.
The police said the body was found from a covered structure located in Riddhi-Siddhi complex in Borivli, which has been lying unattended reportedly due to a dispute.
The remains were found by an employee of a nearby shop. The preliminary investigation done by the police revealed that the body was of same age as that the girl who went missing on October 14, from a nearby chawl. The girl had gone missing while she was playing near a temple.
A missing complaint was then lodged by her parents, which was later converted to kidnapping six days later after the girl could not be found at any of the relatives’ or friends’ places.
“We had even checked all the nullahs and gutters at that time,” said a senior police officer. Assistant commissioner of police, B.D. Gaikwad said, “The girl’s parents were called.
They identified the body with the help of clothes.”The police have now registered a case of murder. Over 20 people, most of them site workers, have been questioned. The remains have been sent to the forensic laboratory in Kalina for ascertaining the reason of the death, the police said.
“The medical and forensic report will play a great role in this investigation,” added Gaikwad.
