A day after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced its decision to name the media box at Wankhede stadium after late Sena chief Bal Thackeray, his son and party president Uddhav Thackeray requested them to name a Kandivli academy after former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.

The New Hindu Cricket Club, an academy in Kandivli that is affiliated to the MCA, is headed by Milind Narvekar, who is also the personal secretary of Uddhav.

In his letter to the MCA president on Wednesday, Narvekar, the president of the cricket academy, said that Uddhav Thackeray wants the academy to be named after Gavaskar. He added that this should be brought on the agenda of the next meeting and considered positively.
