MUMBAI: Days after the desilting of Veena Nagar nullah in Mulund, residents have raised complaints of shoddy work and have said it will lead to waterlogging. Taking cognisance of the complaint, the BMC has ordered to re-attempt the flaws.
After three days of work on the nullah, residents of Mulund complained against the shoddy work done by the contractors appointed by the BMC.
According to residents, the contractors hid the silt and garbage in a drain instead of dumping it.
Citizens feel that this might cause major flooding in the area when monsoon approaches.
Prakash Padikkal, president, Hillside Residents Welfare Association (HIRWA) said, “It is the main nullah of Mulund region. It was shocking to see the kind of work being done by the contractors. Instead of dumping the silt and garbage outside the nullah, they accumulated them and pushed them in a drain, partially covering it. We have reported it to the ward officer and the senior authorities of the civic body.”
Assistant municipal commissioner of T ward, Prashant Sapkale said, “Veena Nagar Nullah is in fact one of the major nullahs of Mumbai connecting Mulund and Thane regions. The complaint made by the citizens was forwarded to the senior authorities and the contractors were asked to redo the desilting work. Hopefully, i t will be gin f rom May 30 and will get done on the due date.”
