From this academic year, students will get their revaluation results within 45 days of applying for it.

The revaluation process has been fast tracked for both college and university examinations. Earlier, students had to apply for a photocopy of their answer sheet after paying Rs 100, then apply for revaluation, for which a Rs 500 fee per paper was charged. A scrutiny committee would then assess if the paper merited revaluation.

Now, the scrutiny committee has been done away with, and anyone who applies for reevaluation will have his or her answer paper reexamined. The need to get a photocopy has also been made optional. This rule will also apply for individual college exams.

“The new process will drastically cut down the waiting period for thousands of students who apply for revaluation,” said Chandra Krishnamurthy, acting vice-chancellor of the University of Mumbai.

The colleges will also be reimbursed a part of the administrative expenses that they incur on these revaluations. Every year, at the university level, nearly 30,000 people applied for revaluation but the scrutiny committee accepted only 10,000 applications. “It usually took three months—these new measures will expedite the entire process and benefit the student community,” said Vilas Shinde, the varsity’s controller of examinations.

Members of the Senate, the governing body of the university, have been demanding the streamlining of the revaluation process for more than a year now. “Why should students have to wait so long?” said Dilip Karande, a senate member.

Several students had complained the revaluation results were often declared after they appeared for the ATKT (allowed to keep term) exams.
