Reward for citizens who foiled dacoity bid in Kharghar

The outgoing Commissioner of Police of Navi Mumbai, Gulabrao Pol has announced rewards for the citizens who helped thwart a dacoity on Wednesday at a finance company in Kharghar.

The outgoing Commissioner of Police of Navi Mumbai, Gulabrao Pol has announced rewards for the citizens who helped thwart a dacoity on Wednesday at a finance company in Kharghar.

Three of the seven accused were arrested and jewellery worth Rs 3.73 crore was recovered.

Giri (26) and Rakesh Rathod (22) are residents of Thane while Vishnu Thakur (24) stays in Dadar, the police said.

The dacoity had taken place at 4.30 pm in Sector 19 of Kharghar at the Manappuram General Finance and Leasing Ltd.

Seven persons with pistols had entered the company on the pretext of mortgaging gold.

Pol said, "There was a scuffle between the accused, security guard S.S. Tiwari and area head Rajesh Kumar.

The accused pulled out the cables of computers and the CCTV cameras and using the locker key stole gold worth Rs 3.73 crore weighing 20.723 kg."

"However, when they were trying to escape, the police patrolling the area managed to reach the spot. Tiwari with the help of police and businessmen Sayed Khan and Manish Thakur chased them," added Pol.

The police have recovered two pistols worth Rs 80,000 and six live cartridges of 7.65mm worth Rs 1,000 apart from the Quallis in which they arrived.

Pol said, "We will be rewarding Khan with cash of Rs 10,000 and a certificate, Tiwari with Rs 5,000 and a certificate and Kumar with a certificate for their courageous work."
