The Antop Hill police suspect that robbery may not have been the only motive behind the murder of a woman and her granddaughter at Indira Nagar. The duo were found with their throats slit at their Antop Hill residence on Friday evening.
The police suspect that the gold jewellery worth Rs5 lakh may have been taken by the accused to confuse the police.
“If the accused wanted to rob the house, they would not have killed the three-year-old girl as she would not have been able to stop them. We suspect there is more to the case,” said an officer from Antop Hill police station.
Ranjana Nagorkar, 55, whose husband was a police constable who passed away two years ago, was living with her daughter Sheetal Raikar, son-in-law Santosh and granddaughter Vaishnavi. The police are questioning their domestic help Pushpa. “She has not reported for work for the last four days claiming she was unwell. Pushpa’s husband has been detained for questioning, as there are many cases of robbery registered here against him for which he had been arrested in the past,” said the police.
The incident took place when Ranjana’s daughter Sheetal and her husband were at work. When Sheetal returned from work she found the bodies, and noticed valuables and cash missing from the house.
“The necks of both the victims were slit with a sharp object and the entire house was ransacked,” said police inspector S Patil.
