“We have asked the probe team to submit the report to us by the end of this month, so that strict action can be taken in this case,” the CM said.

Five inmates accused of serious criminal offences had escaped from the jail on Tuesday morning.

Fadnavis said, “It is impossible to break out of the prison without help from insiders. We are sure that they received internal help and we will ensure that we detect the people who provided this help.”

Fadnavis also said the probe would look at twin aspects of the role of the jail personnel, as well as the failure of infrastructure or equipment at the jail, which led to the incident.

“The report will also suggest preventive measures that can be implemented to ensure that a repeat of such an incident doesn’t occur.”
