A Western Railway ticket checker, PK Sharma, and an RPF personnel, Paresh Kumar Dhoria, were arrested by Mumbai Central railway police for extorting money from a student at Lower Parel station on Friday.

“The duo got into the handicapped compartment of a Virar-bound local train and found Adesh Shah, 17, a student of Khalsa College without proper ticket,” said inspector Narayan Shinde, Mumbai Central GRP. “They took Rs100 from him, but did not issue a receipt. Angry commuters gheraoed them, who forcefully halted the train at Lower Parel and stopped services for over half an hour. While 10 trains were cancelled, many others were rescheduled.”}
