An unidentified accused broke into a Vikhroli residence on Sunday and made away with gold jewellery and valuables worth around Rs13.6 lakh.

The Vikhroli police said the incident came to light around 8am on Sunday when Shainaz Sheikh, 36, a resident of Kazi Chawl in Vikhroli returned to her house. Sheikh had gone to her sister-in-law’s residence that is 100m away from her house on Saturday night.

When she returned, she found her door lock broken and home ransacked. Her cupboard door was open and valuables including gold chains, silver chains, watches and cash amounting to Rs13.6 lakh were missing. Sheikh approached the police where a case of house break-in was registered.

“After Sheikh’s husband passed away last year she had been staying alone. She would frequent her sister-in-law’s residence,” added assistant police inspector SS Kakkad. “The break-in does not seem to be planned as Sheikh was to return home after dinner and decided to stay back at the last moment,” he added.
