Malegaon-blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has now been formally arrested in Mumbai by Madhya Pradesh police for her alleged role in the murder of fellow-traveller Sunil Joshi on December 29, 2007.
Dewas judicial magistrate (first class) Padmesh Shah had issued an order to present Thakur before the court on March 9, inspector Vinod Singh Khushwaha told Hindustan Times.
Joshi, an RSS worker and a suspect in several blast cases, was killed in Dewas, around 30 km from Indore.
Police in MP have all along held his own men murdered Joshi. More than 20 people, including a serving colonel, were allegedly involved in it. SIM cards and mobile phones tracked down in five states provided vital clues in the matter.
MP police had moved an application in Mumbai regarding this at the special court set up under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. The arrest took place on Friday at the JJ Hospital, where Thakur is undergoing treatment. It is still not clear when she will be brought to Dewas.
Pragya was known to be close to Joshi, and the reason for their discord is not in the public domain. Some time ago the latter’s relatives said Pragya had visited one of them in Dewas the night the RSS worker was murdered, and had taken away Joshi’s suitcase.
She was also reportedly seen at the hospital where Joshi’s body was taken after the murder.
Dewas police have arrested three persons – Harshad Solanki, Anandraj Kataria and Vasudev Parmar – in connection with Joshi’s death, while two others –Mehul and Mohan – are absconding.
Police in Dewas say Joshi was killed due to the ill-treatment he meted out to some of the above who were allegedly involved in the burning down of Best Bakery in Vadodara in 2002. They also suspect there was some squabble concerning financial matters.
After Sunil Joshi’s murder in Dec 2007, the Maharashtra ATS arrested Pragya Singh, Thakur (in pic). Investigators say Joshi and Thakur had earlier formed an organisation by the name Jai Vande Matram for terrorist activities.
Investigators believe Joshi was leading the group that carried out bombings at Malagaon, Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Sharif. Leads give clue to Thakur’s alleged involved in the Malegaon blast.
Joshi’s diary provided more clues with names such as Indresh Kumar and Devendra Gupta. Kumar and Gupta too were associated with Thakur.
