Heeding to the call by Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray for playing Marathi songs on FM radio channels, the party workers staged a demonstration outside their offices in Lower Parel.

Around 150 Sena workers on Monday shouted slogans outside offices of Red FM and Radio Mirchi in Sun Mills and Matulya mills respectively.

“We asked them to implement the dictates of Balasaheb at the earliest and this was just a signal,” said local Sena corporator Sunil Shinde.

He said that channels can’t deprive Maharashtrians of listening to Marathi songs.

While Red FM has requested for some more time since their main office is in Chennai, Radio Mirchi promised them to do at the earliest.

On Saturday, Thackeray had asked the FM channels to play Marathi songs and said they were betraying the locals by not doing so.

Thackeray also said that if the FM radio channels can

play Punjabi and other regional songs, then why not Marathi songs.
