When the accused of the Parel wine shop firing plotted to loot the shop in July, he was sure that he would not be caught. London Wines shop had been looted twice this year and he thought the police would suspect the previous accused. But the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) inside the shop, which he unaware of, did him in.

Prabhoday Sharma (30), the prime accused in the case, was arrested on Sunday along with two of his accomplices for allegedly firing at the manager of London Wines shop, Parel, on July 13.

“Sharma would often go to the shop to buy liquor,” said Assistant Police Inspector P. Awhad. He got to know that the shop was doing good business and planned the robbery by roping in two Orissa residents.

“He paid Rs 15,000 to the duo to buy a pistol and execute the plan,” added Awhad.

“Sharma did not know that the earlier case of firing and robbery had not been solved. He though the cops would suspect the earlier accused,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.

Sharma owns a saloon in Lalbaug and had recently shifted his family from his native place in Uttar Pradesh to the city.
