The preliminary round of investigations has been completed in the murder case of Sandhya Singh, sister of music directors Jatin-Lalit, but the crime branch is yet to ascertain the cause of the murder.

“We are yet to come to any conclusion as to what led to the murder. Even though the first round of questioning is over, further statements could be recorded to verify the facts,” said an official from the crime branch, requesting anonymity. The Crime Branch is now verifying the statements of more than 50 people, including suspects, witnesses and family members.

A few days ago, the police had conducted a search at the spot in Nerul where Singh’s remains were found in the last week of January. Sources said they had found a soiled kurta and dupatta that belonged to her, along with three pieces of rudraksha that Singh used to wear on a gold chain. The police will send them for forensic tests.

Sources said family members had identified the belongings to be Singh’s. The Navi Mumbai police has already scouted the area before. Now, the crime branch will extend the search to a larger area.

Singh, a resident of NRI colony, Nerul had gone missing on December 13 last year with jewellery worth Rs20 lakh. In the last week of January, her remains were found near the Vashi creek.
