A 36-year-old man and his wife were arrested by the Santacruz police on Sunday for allegedly murdering 22-year-old Naved Shaikh, who was allegedly having an affair with the woman.
Santacruz resident Javed Shaikh planned the murder after learning of his wife Falak's, 28, infidelity, the police said.
"Falak was having an affair with the call centre employee for over a year. Javed had warned his wife several times. However, when he found them together on Saturday, he decided to kill Naved," said Madhukar Chaudhari, senior inspector, Santacruz police station.
Claiming that he just wanted to talk, Javed insisted that his wife call Naved and ask him to meet her at their usual spot - the terrace of Riddhi Siddhi building in Santacruz (West). Javed said he would hide on the terrace as Naved would refuse to come if he knew of his presence, the police said.
When the victim arrived on the terrace, Javed came out of his hiding place and attacked him. He allegedly slashed Naved several times with a chopper till the weapon broke. Naved died at Cooper Hospital on Sunday.
