A mini bus, which belongs to a private school, ran over four members, including two children, of a family on Saturday at Senapati Bapat Road in Dadar. Another member is critically injured.

The cleaner of the bus, Rakesh Shah, 19, and a driver, Mohamed Sheikh, has been arrested. Another driver, Ahmed Sheikh, who was present in the bus when the mishap took place, is absconding. Shah who does not have a driver’s license, was found behind the wheel when the mishap took place.

While the police said it looked like an accident, the victim’s family alleged that the people sleeping on the road were killed because the drivers had a fight with the family over the parking of the bus on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Bhagabai Pawar, 40, her daughter Geeta, 15, a year-and-a-half-old son Deepak and her niece Lata Kale, 8. The head of the family, Dattu Pawar, 55 sustained grievous injuries.

The police said the incident took place around 7am near Kamgar Nagar ground. Shah was reversing the mini bus outside the Sanjay Gandhi Nagar hutments at Elphinstone Road when he ran the bus over them.

The injured were rushed to KEM Hospital, where the four were declared dead on arrival.
Chandrakant Bankar, police inspector of Dadar police station said, “Due to a lack of space in the shanty, the family slept outside the house.”

“We have arrested Shah, 19, and Sheikh under sections 304, 120 (b),” said Ashok Unde, senior police inspector of Dadar police station.
