A Bandra school has initiated an inquiry into an incident where a Class 10 student has accused a teacher of assaulting him during a two-day camp at Palghar.

On Sunday, about 100 Class 10 students of the IES Manik Vidya Mandir School had gone for a camping trip to Palghar.

The student claimed he and his friends were awake till 1.30am on Monday and that annoyed their teacher.

The student accused the teacher of slapping him repeatedly.

After he returned, the student's parents approached the Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the Shiv Sena, on Thursday.

The Yuva Sena members met the school principal and allegedly beat up the teacher.

"The child was awake till 1.30am when the other children were fast asleep. So he was definitely up to some mischief. Why would a teacher suddenly get so angry with a child?" asked Satish Lotlikar, a trustee of the school.

"We will meet the boy's parents on Friday and decide what action should be taken," he added.
