With social networking sites and cellphones becoming an indispensable part of an urban student’s life, city schools are working hard to limit the negative impact of these communication tools on students.

DJ Khetan International School, Malad, has two computer labs – one with internet access for students above Class 8 only. All social networking websites are blocked and students are counselled about the negative effects of revealing personal information on Facebook. “We persuade parents to monitor their child’s online activities,” said Kavita Aggarwal, principal, DJ Khetan International School.

At Euro School, Airoli, all social networking sites are blocked. “We advise parents to monitor the content the child views,” said Natasha Mehta, principal, Euro School. “Some students inform us if their classmates are misusing any online platforms,” said CR Pathak, principal, HVB Academy.
