Congress MLA from Vile Parle Krishna Hegde on Monday said that Marathi films should be screened at what was formerly Bahar cinema.

Vile Parle Assembly constituency has a majority Marathi speaking population.

“The Building Proposal Department had given an Occupation Certificate (OC) to the building in 2006 on condition that there will be a running theatre on the premises,” he said. “But the theatre is not yet operational and only a single application has been made since 2007 to the police commissioner seeking permission.”

He said he had visited the building and seen a theatre on the 4th floor which has been locked since 2006. He said he will raise the issue in the Assembly during the Monsoon session. “I have written to the civic body to cancel the OC and impose penalty on the offenders,” he said.
