Shiv Sena leaders have opposed the draft development plan (DP) submitted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Even though the Sena rules the civic body, along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), many senior leaders have slammed the civic administration for the “builder-friendly” blueprint of the city.
“The new draft plan allows more FSI that benefits only builders. The common man’s requirements have been completely ignored,” said Yashodhar Phanse, senior Sena corporator and standing committee chairman.
“If this DP is implemented, we will lose most of the existing open spaces. Also, increase in FSI will increase housing and thereby the population in the city. The municipal corporation can’t take up more burden of providing services because of geographical and other constrains.”
The Sena made its stand clear in the party mouthpiece Saamana.
In an editorial, the party opposed the draft DP and announced to expose the discrepancies in it from Thursday. It also hints at the tussle between the alliance partners.
“All Opposition parties and the Sena are opposing the draft DP, but only the BJP is supporting it. The BJP believes that with the new FSI norms, the city’s development pace will be faster and better,” it said.
Sena MLA and former city mayor Sunil Prabhu said, “We will not accept the DP. The city is already lacking open spaces and the officials want to take away the existing ones too.”
Slamming the administration, Devendra Ambekar, Opposition leader in the house, said, “It is a ridiculous blueprint that is made only for the builders. The Sena should oppose it when it is tabled in the planning committee.”
