A 64-year-old retired Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) employee committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor flat at Neptune residential complex at Bhandup (West) on Wednesday.

“He was getting treatment for personality disorders and had had heart problems in 2010,” said an officer of Bhandup police station. Mulund resident Umanath Shenoy had gone to meet his daughter and her in-laws with his wife Jayanti, 60.

As soon as the couple entered their 34-year-old daughter Kumudini Pai’s house, Umanath ran to the balcony, opened the safety grills and jumped out.

Jayanti told the police that Umanath had been unwell for the last two years.

“He may have taken the extreme step due to personality disorder problem,” said Shrirang Nadgauda, senior police inspector. HTC
