The two main suspects, both living as paying guests at Tikku’s apartment, are absconding. The police are also investigating the role of Tikku’s son, Anuj, a small time television actor, who lived in the same apartment. They police have not yet traced Anuj’s whereabouts.

Tikku, a Delhi-based businessman, owned three apartments on the first floor of high-rise Samartha Aangan – 3A. He would shuttle between Mumbai and Delhi.

“The two paying guests, both men, are the main suspects in the case. However, Anuj is also untraceable after his father was murdered. Ideally, he should have approached us. We are trying to locate him,” said Dilip Rupwate, a senior inspector at Oshiwara police station.

Rupwate added that the paying guests had moved in to live with Anuj only a fortnight ago. Tikku, a widower, had recently arrived in the city to take his son back to Delhi as he did not have a job.

Police said that a resident of the building, who saw Tikku banging on the window of his apartment, had alerted them.

“I was in the parking lot of the building at about 11.15pm on Saturday when I heard some sounds. I looked up and saw an elderly man on the window of the first floor struggling and banging his fists on the glass,” an eyewitness, who did not want to reveal his name, told the Hindustan Times.
