After a 35-year-old constable of the Borivli traffic police station was killed by a speeding dumper truck on Tuesday, another policeman was killed in a road mishap on Wednesday.
Yuvraj Patil, 52, assistant police inspector of the Tilak Nagar police station, died after an unidentified vehicle hit the motorbike he was riding near the Vashi village signal in Navi Mumbai. The police said the accident occurred around 8.45pm as he was heading back to his residence at Sanpada.
A passer-by saw Patil, who had sustained grievous head injuries, lying on the road.
He informed the police control room and Patil was rushed to a hospital in Vashi. He was declared dead on arrival.
A case of causing death due to negligence was registered against an unidentified person at the Vashi police station. So far, no eyewitnesses have approached the police.
The police are trying to trace the vehicle with the help of locals. RM Gavit, police officer, Tilak Nagar police station said, “Patil had been in the police force for 16 years and was posted at the Tilak Nagar police station more than two years ago.” Patil is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter, Gavit added.
