A seven-year-old girl’s body, with her throat slit, was found at a stone quarry in Moregaon in Nalasopara on Thursday morning. The girl had been reported missing by her parents on Wednesday, the police said.
The child went missing from her house in Moregaon on Wednesday morning. After enquiring with neighbours and friends, the girl’s father, Pramod Singh, 36, finally lodged a missing person’s complaint with the Nalasopara police in the evening.
However, early the next day locals living next to the quarry saw the body of the child and immediately informed the police.
The Nalasopara police have registered a case of murder and have also detained a 15-year-old boy for questioning.
“The detained boy had a tiff with the victim’s mother over a trivial issue and it appears that he might have tried to settle the score. We suspect his involvement in the case and are questioning him. He has not been arrested yet,” said V Patil, assistant inspector, Nalasopara police station.
According to the police, they found bloodstains in his room. Also, he is a history sheeter and has a rape case registered against him with the Nirmal Nagar police station in Bandra (East).
The police are awaiting the post-mortem to ascertain whether the child was raped before being murdered.
