The special CBI court on Wednesday extended permission to the CBI to interrogate former media baron Peter Mukerjea, his wife Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai in jail for 10 more days in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case.
The four accused were on Wednesday produced before the special CBI court, where Indrani and Peter hardly exchanged looks. The central agency moved an application seeking permission to interrogate aall four in jail because they claimed they need to verify facts that they have come across during the investigation.
The agency further claimed they have seized Peter’s mobile, which they will need to unlock because it is password-protected. The agency said they need to get it unlocked to send it for examination. Special judge HS Mahajan allowed the CBI’s application.
Meanwhile, Rai moved an application seeking a jail transfer. In a one-page application filed through his lawyer Shrinivash Bhave, Rai pleaded he be shifted out from Arthur Road Jail to any jail in Thane because of severe mental stress at the present jail.
The court, however, rejected the plea on the grounds that jail transfers fall under the administration of the prison authority and Rai can raise his grievances before the jail department concerned.
The court also adjourned the hearing on Peter’s plea seeking call data records of the other accused as well as Sheena’s. The defense alleged the prosecution should submit all the data and information gathered by them during the investigation before the court.
