To get further leads in the alleged suicide of actor Shikha Joshi, 40, the Versova police will question the doctor against whom Joshi had registered a molestation case in 2011.
According to police sources, Joshi — just before taking her last breathe in the vehicle in which she was being taken to the hospital — told her friend Madhu Bharati that she took the drastic step as she was not getting any work after the molestation case. Bharati has recorded the statement on her mobile phone.
The police have not found a suicide note from the New Mhada colony apartment at Lokhandwala, Andheri (West), where she was living with Bharati and Bharati’s husband.
“We have seized the laptop, camera and mobile phone of Joshi. We have also taken the mobile phone of Bharati and will scrutinise the call records and messages to find out the truth,” said Ravindranath Pawar, senior inspector, Versova police station. “However, preliminary probe reveals it to a case of suicide.”
However, certain facts do not corroborate the theory that she wanted to end her life.
According to police sources, hours before she dies, Joshi had called up her mother, who lives in New Delhi, around 3pm on Saturday. She told her mother she would travel to Delhi to meet her soon.
Officers said the incident took place around 7pm, when Joshi went to the bathroom. She had consumed alcohol. Bharati later knocked on the bathroom door. When Joshi opened the door, Bharati found her throat had been slit. A kitchen knife was lying nearby.
With the help of neighbours, she rushed Joshi to Kokilaben hospital in Andheri, where she was declared dead.
Officers said that Bharati, in her statement, told them Joshi had been battling depression for some time, as she was not getting any good roles or modelling assignment. She had even gone to New Delhi, but returned in a few months.
