Though, the victim in the Shiney Ahuja rape case turned hostile, her statement recorded by the police, together with other evidence, helped nail the actor.
Hindustan Times had, on September 8, 2010, first reported that the now 20-year-old maid had turned hostile, denying the allegations against the actor.
The maid testified in court that Shiney had never raped her, and that she had seen his movies and had fallen in love with him.
She told the court that she had tried to reveal her feelings to Shiney several times.
She further stated that she had registered the complaint at the behest of another woman who had got her the job at Shiney’s residence.
However, on the basis of medical reports and DNA fingerprinting, a fast-track court at Sewri, on Wednesday, convicted Shiney of raping the maid and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
The victim had, in her statement recorded by the police on June 14, 2009, said that a day before, Shiney had tried to touch her while pretending to help her as she climbed a ladder inside the flat to check the water in the tank.
On June 14, Shiney again touched her under some pretext, and finally took her to a room and raped her, the girl had stated.
Later, according to her statement, he confined her in a room for two hours and threatened her with harm if she told anyone about the rape.
Finally, when the actor allowed her to leave his flat, the victim, as mentioned in her statement, ran out crying and met another maid who had introduced her to the Ahujas.
