Thane police arrested six persons for allegedly murdering Ambernath Shiv Sena corporator Nitin Warenge. Warenge was shot dead by two men on May 6.
The six accused, Bhalchandra Bhoir, 37, Sumit Yerunkar, 32, Nitin Thanage, 28, Mahendra Kevat, 23, Dattatray Gaikwad, 20, and Santosh Yadav, 28, allegedly hatched a plan to kill Warenge.
Bhoir and his family had allegedly murdered Warenge’s nephew Sameer Gosavi over a property dispute in 2009 for which Bhoir was arrested and lodged at Adharwadi jail. Warenge had tried to delay Bhoir’s bail plea which infuriated him. Bhoir plotted his murder in revenge, the police said.
“Bhoir met Yerunkar, a member of the Ashwin Naik gang in prison, who agreed to help him kill Warenge,” said KP Raghuvanshi, police commissioner of Thane.
Yerunkar hired shooters Kevat and Gaikwad to kill Warenge, allegedly offering them Rs20 lakh. While Bhoir is currently lodged in Adharwadi jail, and Yerunkar in Taloja jail, the police arrested Kevat and Gaikwad from Chunabhatti and Yadav and Thanage from Ambernath.
