Inder Singh Kirti Singh (23), the office boy of slain lawyer Shahid Azmi (32), who was allegedly threatened by an unknown caller around three days ago, has now been asked by the police to stay at Azmi’s office for the time being because it already has police cover.

“He (Inder) seems to be a bit scared. So we have asked him to stay there,” said Police Inspector B. Jadhav of the Kurla police station. The police said Singh received a call on Tuesday night threatening him with dire consequences.

He then approached Azmi’s brother Khalid, who asked him to lodge a complaint with the police.

Azmi, who was a defence lawyer for 26/11 accused Faheem Ansari, was shot dead by three people in his office at the Taximen’s Colony in Kurla (West) on February 10. Singh is the only eye-witness in the case who saw all the three accused clearly. The police are tracing the caller. They suspect that the threat calls could have been made to prevent Singh from deposing before the trial court, which will start soon.
